Open Source Projects

As a long-standing open-source service provider in the embedded Linux space, we are involved in a wide range of open-source projects, both out of conviction and on behalf of our customers. We also maintain some of the projects ourselves.

We take care of further development, debugging, provision of resources, as well as general maintenance.

Our employees work closely with communities worldwide and are represented at relevant conferences, meetings, and workshops.

Community Projects with Active Pengutronix Involvement

Linux Kernel
Contributing to the Linux kernel is one of our core tasks. Pengutronix employees are also directly involved in the development process as maintainers, including for graphics drivers such as Etnaviv for GPUs in NXP i.MX SoCs.
Yocto/OE
Pengutronix developers actively contribute to the development and maintenance of various components such as oe-core, bitbake, poky, meta-oe, and other layers.
systemd
We rely on systemd as the init and service management system in almost all of our projects, and contribute fixes and improvements to code and documentation as needed.
mesa
In addition to our kernel work, we also maintain the corresponding userspace part of the Etnaviv graphics driver.
GStreamer
We regularly contribute fixes and improvements to GStreamer for multimedia pipelines on embedded systems.
OP-TEE OS
As part of our many secure boot projects on ARM-based hardware, we regularly contribute to the development and bug fixing of OP-TEE.
Weston
We are also involved in the Wayland compositor Weston, contributing bug fixes and improvements.
U-Boot
In addition to barebox, we also contribute to the U-Boot bootloader, including in the area of security and secure boot.
